![]() ![]() “Why not? It can’t hurt” I thought to myself. “Oh dear God, what have I done? I haven’t the slightest clue how to train for an Ironman.” A couple months later, by chance, I ran into a Z’er outside of my work and as we started talking Triathlon, she told me about Team Z. I remember standing at the start next to her and saying, “just think, those Ironman people have to do this after swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112”¦.freaking lunatics!.” Two years later with a couple of sprint and Olympic triathlons under my belt, and after a couple of glasses of wine, I started to wonder, “Maybe I can do an Ironman too?” So I pulled the trigger, dropped the cash, and signed up for Ironman Cozumel. In 2009 I ran the Disney Marathon with my mom, accompanying her on her first 26.2 mile adventure. I have a good friend on the Team that says that all the training and hard work is the journey. With the help of the coaches and my teammates, I am learning everyday how to find balance physically, set reachable goals, listen to my body, and enjoy the experience. I somehow always fell to side with an injury and burned out long before I reached the start line. My old game plan was to go as fast and as hard as possible regardless of the consequences. ![]() When I joined the Team in December 2011, I did not know what to expect. Regardless of your experience, speed, motivation, and goals there is a place for you on Team Z. ![]() With the support of Team Z, I have raced numerous short distance triathlons, several half Ironmans, raced my best injury free marathon (I beat Oprah’s time), and signed up for an Ironman. I told anyone who would listen that the only way I would ever run another marathon was if it was in an Ironman and since I was never going to do an Ironman I had nothing to worry about. Never say never on Team Z! I never thought I would do a triathlon let alone a half Ironman. ![]() There’s no need to learn a flip turn if you are only swimming in a lake! Coach Ed will make sure that you end up in the right place, and that you leave your first swim practice with a smile! As triathletes we only get a few hours a week in the pool, so we must make it count. Ed will take you to a pool where nobody dives in, nobody does flip turns, and the only stroke we swim is freestyle. New to swimming? No problem, we’ve got you covered. Others are more suited for the triathlete where we focus primarily on freestyle. Some of our pools are traditionally structured swim practices which include strokes other than freestyle and interval training. Certain practices are better suited for different types of L4 and Team Z members. Membership in Team Z is not required to participate in L4 masters swimming workouts. L4’s membership includes Team Zers and non-triathletes of all abilities and backgrounds. L4, which has grown into the third largest masters adult swimming program in the country, provides athletes with superior coaching and convenient locations. These events will allow you to test the fitness and experience you’ve gained from Zwift Academy Tri–and use it for training towards your next triathlon.Team Z has long partnered with a masters swimming program, now called L4 (Lane Four). The Finish Line Ride and Finish Line Run are meant to be the final events in your Zwift Academy program. Being a mentor to these exceptional athletes has been such a wonderful reminder of how a shared love of sport has the power to bring us together. The longer run workouts and the longer Finish Line Run is required for Zwifters who are aiming to make the ZA Tri Team. The Zwift Academy Tri Team exemplifies so much of what is great about triathlon: the sense of community, pursuit of excellence, and passion for the sport. This year, there will be a single Finish Line Ride for bike and either a 15-minute Short or 30-minute Long run.īoth the Finish Line Run and Finish Line Ride are required to graduate. These workouts are ideal for more experienced triathletes looking to improve their speed and endurance. Long Run Workouts are 45 minutes and offer increased intervals and tempo durations. The short Workouts are ideal for new triathletes, less experienced runners, or anyone who wants to do a brief run workout. Short Run Workouts are between 25–30 minutes and are a condensed version of the Long workouts. This year we’ve added two new features to Zwift Academy Tri: short and long Run workout options-and Finish Line events. ![]()
